More Than Words – Gay Rights.

2006 | Uncategorized

But I’m here to spread a little ‘joy’ the best way I know how: by bitching about something, lol. This time the topic turns to rights and equality for homosexuals. Yes, gay rights coming from a Faith! I’m just as shocked as you are! *snicker* Okay, granted this isn’t really a surprise, but it’s becoming a huge problem in the U.S. and it’s time I said something about it. Yes, I must educate, for I am the light and the way. ( I’m so gonna get bitched at for that last remark, lmao. )

On June 5, 2006 an amendment will be voted on in Congress called the Marriage Protection Amendment. The boiled down version of it’s contents consist of banning marraige and union between homosexual partners in the USA. Yes, my friends, this IS crazy talk and we HAVE to do something about this! What would St. Valentine think about taking the right to wed away from couples in love?

I’d like to share with you part of the most current newsletter from the Human Rights Campaign:

“There’s a moment in the film Brokeback Mountain that moved me very much: it’s when Jack Twist says to Ennis Del Mar, “Listen, I’m thinking, tell you what, if you and me had a little ranch together – little cow and calf operation, your horses – it’d be some sweet life.”

They never did realize their dream. And for real-life gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender couples – the dream of a life together may be possible, but protecting their relationships is still a distant hope.

I recently read about two real-life cowboys who did realize their dream. They met, fell in love, and settled down for a quarter century on a ranch in Bristow, Oklahoma. Together, they raised three sons and tended 50 head of cattle. But when one of the men passed away, his will, which left everything to his life partner, was challenged in court by a distant cousin and declared invalid. Everything was taken away – the land, the cattle, and all the personal belongings that made up their life together. Their dream was broken.

I don’t have to tell you the obvious: if they had been a man and a woman, this never could have happened. Only seven states currently give gay couples inheritance rights through marriage, civil unions or domestic partnerships. Oklahoma isn’t one of those states – in fact, Oklahoma recently amended its state constitution to ensure that neither marriage nor any similar arrangement is extended to same-sex couples. “

This, no matter what you claim to believe, is WRONG. But I’m sure you’re thinking that your pastor and the bible tell you it’s ok, hell even commendable, to take rights away from people who aren’t like you? It was wrong to own people like property, it was wrong to kill innocents in the search for witches, it was wrong to do a lot of things that were supposidly the ‘right’ thing to do. Whenever you take rights away from someone else soley based on your dissaproval it’s wrong. I can’t even believe this is up for discussion!

What ever happened to ‘With liberty and justice for ALL“!?

PLEASE, please, help out anyway you can. Even if this doesn’t directly effect you, fighting for equal rights for all is the only way to achieve the real American Dream: Freedom. Not just freedom for Baptists, or freedom for Mormons or freedom for Aethiests or Republicans or Democrats, but freedom for EVERYONE.]]>
