Grandfather Clocks
2007 | Uncategorized
You know, one of the only ( yes, only ) things I’ve always really loved about living out in the country is that you see things here you don’t see in other, more developed places in the U.S., one of them being elaborate funriture. A friend of my mom’s has a big old house, which she only paid 44,000 for ( it’s a 15 room, 4 bedroom, 2 full 1 half bath if you can believe it ) with very ornate furnishings, most of which came with the house. One of the things that really strikes me every time I visit her is the beautifully carved grandfather clock in the parlor. I’ve always loved grandfather clocks, they have such an, I don’t know, gothic feel, if that makes any sense?
Personally, I don’t really have any ornate or antique furniture, really, because I’m such a minimalist and everything I have is so cheap, lol. But still, minimalism. I do need some new clocks, though, specifically I’m looking to buy two mantel clocks for a couple of full-wall corner shelves in my living and dining rooms, something with a punch of color, like atomic clocks would be nice. I know I’m going to cave and get whatever’s cheapest, but if I do decide to splurge I think I’ll be going in for Clocks at 1-800-4CLOCKS, specifically the Howard Miller Kegan Alarm Clock, which has such a gorgeous retro feel while still being sleek and metallic.

I love that Howard Miller Kegan Alarm Clock! My mother loves grandfather clocks but doesn’t have one. She does have this really old mantle clock that has been passed down from my grandmother though. I love the fact that it has a ‘history’.
