National Memory Screening Day
2007 | Health, Posties
I’ve blogged before about my experience with Alzheimer’s and how it’s not only affected the person who had been diagnosed but everyone around them, and I failed to mention something out of sheer ignorance. I didn’t realize that you may be able to detect Alzheimer’s disease early, as well as other illnesses with simple memory screening.
Held each November, National Memory Screening Day was set in place by the to help with early detection of Alzheimer’s disease. I think they have, doing so, made many people who were diagnosed aware of what was wrong with them in a way they may have passed over before, so they could stop wasting time and try and get the treatment they need as soon as possible rather than let the onset of Alzheimer’s ruin their lives, which is exactly what this disease does. Finding a cure is so important, but almost more important is early detection of this disease and care for those who already have the affliction. Can you imagine how you’d feel if it were you suffering from Alzheimer’s with no one to turn to for help? What if it were your father or mother? Care for those who’ve been diagnosed can’t be overlooked.
If you’re interested in getting yourself or a loved one screened, you can find screening locations in your area by visiting the National Memory Screening website’s Screening Sites page. And, please, while you’re there read a little more about the warning signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia as well as their Successful Aging tips that range anywhere from participating in activities to following a healthy diet. These are tips everyone should know and share with their friends and loved ones, they may sound simple but they may also save you and your family from heartache later in life.

Coat. COAT.
| Clothing, Holidays, Random
Woo hoo! I got my new, 10 dollar factory malfunction coat that’s too small today! I don’t care, I love it and it loves me, and it’s eighty billion times warmer than the trench I’ve worn up until now, which is what I’m looking for in a coat, thank you so much. I’d love to say it would fit if I lsot weight, but it does fit – everything but my boobs, lol. I don’t think I can lose weight in just my boobs, though I’m sure if you could Laota would have figured out how by now, don’t you think?
At any rate, I’ve fixed the factory malfunction and now I intend to do a boogie of happiness, lol.

I’m Greedy On Halloween
| Holidays, Rants
You know what would be nice? If life were fair and Halloween were dark and gloomy instead of blinded-by-the-light-bright. It’s still summer-y here, still! Still with the torrential rains and two-feet-away sun! That tears it, dude, I need some new sunglasses and a new pair of boots ( we’ll just pretend that the new boots are because of the rain, and not just because I want them ). I saw the pair of boots I want at Wal-Fart, of all places ( combat-style, thank you so much ), and the sunglasses I want are some gorgeous, super-huge bug eyes from M+ that I found over at EyeglassesContacts.com. I was first really drawn to a pair from Saki ( they have all the designers, seriously, we’re talking Dior, Juicy, Baby Phat, Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs, you name it ), but they were a bit too small for me. I’m still really into those sunglasses they used on Buffy in early season two, and yes I’m a geek but I’m talking about the lilac Jackie-O’s with tinted lenses from the post-credits scene in When She Was Bad and Jesus, I’m a nerd, lol.

Happy Halloween!
| Food, Holidays, Random
Argh! In a good way! It’s Halloween, woo hoo! I’ve got a sushi platter waiting for me, and little cupcakes in Halloween colors and my bento, even, which I’ve been picking at all day, lmao. Plus the Halloweenie tunes on the CD player ( Gods bless Danny Elfman ), now all I need is to be able to contain excitement and wait for the kiddies to arrive for their treats. Gah, I’m impatient!
