Cell Phones for Seniors
2007 | Family, Gifts and Giving, Holidays, Posties
I don’t know if you’ve heard about Jitterbug cell phones, but I know that I first heard about it in their very cute commercials about cell phones for senior citizens, and I went to their website and looked around at all the nifty senior cell phones and service plans and one thing I noticed is that the phones are made easier to use, which I thought was cool since the reason a few seniors on my block don’t use cell phones is that they’re so complicated to learn to use, especially for someone who didn’t grow up using them like most teens and even twenty-somethings did.
Another reason is also covered by Jitterbug. My neighbor Doris, who’s the sweetest little old lady who lives a few houses down the street from me ( she’s adorable, always brings us peanut butter fudge at the holidays ) has a real problem with her eye sight, and even on her regular landline she has a real hard time seeing the buttons, or even hitting the right ones. She once joked to me that she should memorize the pitch each button makes so she can dial the numbers without triple checking, lol. But Jitterbug’s gone the extra mile and not only made their phones very easy to use, they’ve also made the buttons large, easy to read buttons to take the guesswork out of dialing a number.
One reason use a cell phone if you’re a older senior who’s fond of their independance is the added safety of being able to call for help if you need it, if you’ve fallen, gotten lost or something’s just come up and disrupted your plans. You can choose monthly plans as low as $10 per month, their Simply Share plan that includes you and up to 5 other people on the same plan for only $15 a month per user with calls inside your share plan circle for $0, yes that does mean free, and then there is their yearly plan, 12 months for only $120 for the service and calls as low as $0.35 cents per minute! With prices like these, and the holidays coming up, Jitterbug phones make great gifts for senior citizens and are a nice way to show someone you love how much you care. The best part is that they don’t shove a long term contract down your throat and they even have a 30 day return policy if you decide that Jitterbug isn’t for you.
