2008 | Video, Watching

Jesus, the personal video scene is getting crazy. I know all of two or three peope who don’t upload to youtube or whatnot, and I work for a politician so there’s a vast amount of video made available to the public by the crazy Republicans. Even the debates have been youtube-a-fied!

Not to mention, with the WGA on strike, the vast majority of the studios and networks had made their video content available online for the price of advertisements or a small price tag, thereby negating their point in the strike that there may not be any money in online downloadable media so they “can’t” give the writers a percentage, but I’ve gotten away from the point as I tend to, lol.

Actually, some of the best user generated video I’ve seen have been updates and protests from the WGA writers on strike, which I think is a good way to get your point across in a situation like this, my favorite of which is Joss Whedon, creator of the likes of Buffy and Firefly, talking about the strike – actually there’s a lot of his vids around.

But more than anything, video from regular people has become a weird sort of star maker. There are actually a few minor celebrities who started out in front of a web cam and can now write their own ticket. It’s amazing, even, and everyone’s looking for their fifteen minutes of fame.

Well, look no further my lovelies, than YawpBox. YawpBox is a Dallas, Texas television show that actually takes their content directly from user uploaded video on their website, and gives those users their 15 minutes of fame! Lex and Terry, the hosts I take it, put out the “Lex and Terry Challenge” on their show and also on nation wide radio, and your job is to basically fill their video order – who knows, you may end up on TV?
