Get Your Store On
2008 | Money
Ahh,
this is so cool! I’m screwing around on SilkFair, an ecommerce system where you can get your own free store to sell your goods online. Unlike eBay, your listings are free and you only have to deal with a 3% final sales fee, and if that weren’t enough you can use your own custom domain name, so if your store is, say, AbraCadabra Magic Supplies you can use abracadabramagicsupplies.com, for example. Plus they’ve got integrated payment gateways, and you can use Google Checkout, Paypal, Authorize.net, etc., whatever you’re comfortable with.
I’m convinced that, other than the occasional 502 Bad Gateway request, that this is going to be a favorite site of mine – and since I’m poor, and eBay is charging me out the backside just to list things and I still end up paying out the nose if they don’t sell.
Some of the features that I really love are the fact that you can use video to sell our products, I don’t believe I’ve ever heard of doing that on an online marketplace? It’s such a cool idea! On top of that you get a blog and a forum for your store, I’m fairly sure this is also free. But my absolute favorite thing about the site is that you can search products by color, as you can see in the screencap I’ve embedded. By COLOR! I’m a black and pink fanatic, so this is great for me, because it makes it possible for me to find exactly what I want.
The one thing I didn’t love was that I was easily confused by the site and didn’t know where to begin, but that’s most likely due in large part to my dyslexia because it happens to me a lot – I’m kind of simple and I need things explained to me, lol.
BEFORE YOU COMMENT: Please understand that, though I'm all for free speech, I'm also busy and downright mean. Because of this I will not tolerate offensive, inappropriate or hateful comments. I'll warn you and delete the offensive part, but if you repeat the offense I'll probably ban you from the domain. I'm sorry, but I just don't have time for spam, racism, and so on and so on. Just to note: What I find offensive? Is what we'll call offensive, this being my blog and all. ;)
