Review – Redeu-ai
2008 | Uncategorized
I’ve been trying to get my hands on Red Eye since it’s DVD release over a year ago, hoping and praying to get a hold of a copy just to watch, knowing full well it would be years before I could own the DVD. Well, last month we found out My Husband Mr. Netflix *finally* had a copy of it available and I put it in our queue right up at the top as fast as I could, and when I finally did get to watch the film it was worth the wait.
Now, Redeu-ai’s not a Ju-on or a Ringu, and that in itself may disappoint Asian Horror fans, but it’s scary, it’s touching and it’s very creepy.
Red Eye’s about Oh Mi-sun, a railroad attendant who’s just started her first shift on a train that’s running it’s last round and is to be taken out of commission after this one overnight run. She befriends one of the staff and learns from him that some of the cars on the train are not only refurbished cars from a major crash years before that claimed the lives of many of the passengers, but that the passengers are rumored to have stayed aboard the train. I can’t say any more without giving the film away, and yes there’s much more to it than this. Oh Mi-sun’s picked a crappy way to spend her birthday!
STORY: 9/10
SCARES: 7/10
EFFECTS: 7/10
OVERALL: 8/10
I definitely recommend this film to anyone who’s a big fan of Asian horror, and who liked films like The Wishing Stairs, The Eye and Dorm.
