Trick Fantastico into Upgrading You
2008 | Uncategorized
So, you’ve installed WordPress by hand and now it’s time to upgrade it – by hand. Well, let’s be honest, we all want to use Fantastico to auto-upgrade our WordPress installations, even the ones we’ve installed without Fantastico. I’m going to try and help you to trick Fantastico into upgrading your hand-installed WordPress – here we go:
First, you’ll need to know what your username is, what directory you’ve installed WordPress into, your current version of WordPress, your username and your database name.
Now, use your cPanel file manager to go into the Fantastico WordPress data directory here ( remember, this is OUTSIDE of your public_html folder ):
.Fantasticodata > WordPress
And create a text file inside of that directory named yourdomain.com| if your WordPress is installed in public_html, and yourdomain.com|foldername if it’s installed in another directory. Now, inside the file write the following, remember to replace username_wrdp1 with your database name, yourdomain.com with your domain and username with your username:

Save the file there – remember, it should have no extention! Now we’re going to go into the directory in which you’ve installed your WordPress and create a file named fantversion.php, place the following inside changing 2.5.1 to your current WordPress version:

Save and head over to Fantastico, click on WordPress – you should now see a WordPress installation listed that you can upgrade if there’s an upgrade available. Voila! ![]()
BEFORE YOU COMMENT: Please understand that, though I'm all for free speech, I'm also busy and downright mean. Because of this I will not tolerate offensive, inappropriate or hateful comments. I'll warn you and delete the offensive part, but if you repeat the offense I'll probably ban you from the domain. I'm sorry, but I just don't have time for spam, racism, and so on and so on. Just to note: What I find offensive? Is what we'll call offensive, this being my blog and all. ;)
