Identity Theft Security
2008 | Money, Rants, Rawr
I’ve got *no* security and no money. It’s no fun being 3 rungs from the bottom of a 3,000 run social ladder, especially with all of the identity theft problems these days. I don’t know if you know this, but identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the U.S.A., those farging iceholes go so far as to actually steal CHILDREN’S identities! Children! Do you have any idea how hard it will be for a kid who’s gone through this to apply for college loans or buy a home, get a car, get a credit card?
I’m sure you’ve already heard about life lock, I think by now we all have, but I bet you didn’t know that the tasks they preform for you are tasks you can preform for yourself – if you never have to work and have all day to make calls and do research. What’s cool about Life Lock is that they say right on their website that you can preform this service for yourself, it’s just easier to let them do it – especially at such a good price.
According to ConsumerAffairs.com, 674,354 of the identity theft complaints recieved by the Federal Trade Commission from January 1, 2006 – December 31, 2006 were complaints made by people just like you and me – that’s 36% of all complaints! It’s getting crazy, and I don’t know about you but I don’t have the money as it is to deal with that.
I’ve already had someone writing bad checks in my name, thank the Gods the bank knew they were fake because I didn’t have a checking account – and yet they were able to cash them anyway. I’m just lucky I didn’t have to pay for it, who knows if I’ll be that lucky again? What if someone decided to go through my garbage and get the one pre-approved credit card offer I didn’t destroy? They could apply for a credit card in my name and effectively ruin my life! And I wouldn’t know what to do about it, which is why Life Lock’s so cool. Granted, I could do this myself but, let’s face it – I wouldn’t know where to start. Would you?
BEFORE YOU COMMENT: Please understand that, though I'm all for free speech, I'm also busy and downright mean. Because of this I will not tolerate offensive, inappropriate or hateful comments. I'll warn you and delete the offensive part, but if you repeat the offense I'll probably ban you from the domain. I'm sorry, but I just don't have time for spam, racism, and so on and so on. Just to note: What I find offensive? Is what we'll call offensive, this being my blog and all. ;)
