We’re Lucky.

Oh, Money. Sort of like time, there’s so little and so much of it. I’m almost never in any debt, and neither is Laota. Why? Because we’re scared to death of money. We’ve got a tiny bit, and I mean a tiny bit, of debt on our Capital One card, but it’s about paid off and it never got above $400 – because we’re scared to death of money, lol.

I blogged earlier about how we’d gone on a $100 shopping spree this month to get a new rice cooker and a new water filter pitcher, plus some books and movies – but we had the money on us and our bills for the month had been paid. And while we’re really poor, we still make just enough to buy the occasional trinket thanks to online work and long hours, but not everyone has that luxury. Not everyone has a little extra money, and just to enjoy their lives or just because something comes up ( broken bones, new transmission, school fees ) they can find themselves buried in debt, and I can’t even imagine how horrible that is. We may not have much, but we’re lucky, we had the luxury of not letting our debt get out of hand, but there are millions of people who weren’t so lucky.

These guys are part of The Association of Settlement Companies, and I’ve gone over their site, it all looks good and straight forward. They outline your options, like settlement, bankrupcy, credit counscelling, etc., to help you find a way out of debt that you can actually afford. It’s really worth the look, especially if you’ve got looming bills. It can’t hurt to look, and you don’t have anything to lose.
