Well, I’ve been messing around with the Bills IQ bill calculator thing from Bills.com to find out how Financially Fit I am and it turns out that I’m around 98/100 for credit and debt, but I score less than 70 for everything else – why? Well, something BillsIQ doesn’t take into consideration is that not everyone has the money to invest, not everyone has the ability to save as much as they’d like to, not everyone has the ability to retire and I fall into that group – pretty much riding the poverty line.

I see what they were trying to do here, and I think it can help – some people. People who need debt help, maybe even people who are trying to motivate themselves. But the people who this service will benefit most are not really people who need debt relief, they’re people who need stock tips. For someone who literally lives hand to mouth, BillsIQ is great in theory but it just isn’t practical. I ended up having to answer questions that don’t apply to me with answers that don’t apply to me just to get to the next section of that test.

Just because I don’t have any real credit card debt and don’t currently need debt consolidation, just because I know how to manage my money, just because I save what I can automatically means I should be able to use my money like someone who has leftover cash after they’ve taken care of basic ( very basic ) necessities?

I realize that a lot of people who live in my tax bracket need credit counseling, but those people aren’t going to have a whole-life career plan and, generally, you’re not going to see a lot of people who can afford to life insurance or to invest their money. If this is supposed to help, well then it’s geared towards the wrong people.
