Month of Movies #4

2008 | Movies

Okay I almost missed yesterday, which I’m sorry about but I was so insanely busy plus taking 24/7 care of someone else’s stupid website is really starting to cut into what little me time I’ve got these days. I’m going to go apeshit, lol. Plus with the election and me working for a politician. Well, you get the idea, lol.

Anyway, onto movie #4 for November’s Month of Movies!

MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA (2006)

This film is a beautifully acted, beautifully directed film somehow pulled out of one of the stupidest, most offensive and mind numbing books I’ve read in my life. Seriously, if Geisha were vampires the book this film is based on would be would be Twilight, that’s how bad it is.

Memoirs of a Geisha follows Chiyo, a poor girl who is sold along with her sister into a life of service as Geisha (her sister Satsu is passed over in the Geisha house and sold to another, less Geisha more whore house) who’s love for an older, married man leads her to try and use the meager means of her poor station in life as Geisha to elevate herself to a position high enough to walk in his world. This film is just beautiful, and everyone in it pulls their weight (if you’re a fan of Asian horror you’ll recognize a few faces!), the film is over-written dialogue-wise just like the book is, and the over romantic way they speak is really overkill.

That doesn’t take away from the film much, and along with the locations, sets, costumes and score it’s a pleasure to watch. Memoirs of a Geisha gets 4 stars out of a possible 5!

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s film, which will be posted on Shibuya 109!

BEFORE YOU COMMENT: Please understand that, though I'm all for free speech, I'm also busy and downright mean. Because of this I will not tolerate offensive, inappropriate or hateful comments. I'll warn you and delete the offensive part, but if you repeat the offense I'll probably ban you from the domain. I'm sorry, but I just don't have time for spam, racism, and so on and so on. Just to note: What I find offensive? Is what we'll call offensive, this being my blog and all. ;)
