DVD Fun with Eagle Eye and Tropic Thunder
2009 | Movies
Whoo hoo! My Eagle Eye 2 disc DVD box set thingie arrived yesterday afternoon just like I was hoping it would, and I’ve gotten a chance off and since then ( between work and projects, that is ) to check it out and watch some of the special features and deleted scenes and for a film that didn’t spend long in the box office, that thing sure has a decent pack of extras!
I can almost never stand the gag reel’s on these things, but this one was pretty good. Billy Bob Thornton’s one hilarious dude, and when he goes off on a tirade of purposeful nonsense you can’t beat the hilarity. And, of course, Shia‘s adorable and you can’t listen to his B.S. in interviews or the gag reel for too long without thinking, “Awwww…” which kind of throws off the ‘action’ part of this film if you’re at all familiar with LaBeouf‘s candid interviews. He has to know he’s the sweetest thing ever. He can’t not know, it’s got to be impossible, lol.
Laota had said something funny to me while we were watching Eagle Eye last night. Something I think is 100% true but I’d never thought about it before. She said that though Eagle Eye got panned by critics she didn’t think it was the film’s fault, as has been both of our thought process since first hearing the negative reviews. It’s LaBeouf. People just don’t like him. But the part that I really agreed with, the thing she said out of the blue that made so much sense, was that if Leonardo DiCaprio had made the film instead of Shia LaBeouf it would have won an Oscar. I really agree. Hollywood’s a funny place, lol.
Speaking of the sweetest thing ever, and of hot Jewish guys, I finally got to see Jay Baruchel in Tropic Thunder, a film about the making of a large budget war picture with a cast made up of spoiled dillweeds that happens to be peopled with some of my all-time favorite actors. Baruchel was amazing, as always, holding his own with the likes of Ben Stiller and Tom Cruise. Bill Hader was fabulous, Robert Downey Jr. is an ass but I love him, and Jack Black was, as always, the funniest dude to ever walk the planet which you have to agree is just the way things are because if you don’t love Jack Black then there’s crap wrong with you. Hey, I’m just saying.
