Shia LaBeouf: Boy Wonder?

Shia LaBeouf is going to be Dick Greyson. Is there anyone in the world who actually believes this? No? Really? Then why are celeb bloggers and gossip hounds still gabbing it and passing it on as if it were true? Eddie Murphy as The Riddler, as you likely know, was the second part of that joke and Murphy’s people have already stated that it’s a load of bunk, so once again, why are people still harping on this?
I realize I’m fueling the fire, here, because of all of the people in the world who don’t need to be in a Batman flick, I’d say Eddie Murphy’s at the top of that list and I realize I’ll be blasted and mailed for saying that, lol. I like Murphy, I do, I’ve been a fan since the very early 80s but how these rumors get started is beyond me. I just don’t see this dude as The Riddler.
LaBeouf is a whole other story. As with Murphy I’m a huge fan, but the reason I’m against him being in a Batman flick is not because Batman would suffer for his presence. It’s because the franchise would suffer because of the baggage that Robin brings with him, especially played by an actor who’s fanbase is split down the middle – either you love him or you “hate” him, which manifests itself like obsession anyway. If they stuck LaBeouf in a Batman film you’d get a billion angry fanboys protesting the way they did with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which I still think was top two of the Indiana Jones franchise.
Either way the last thing that Batman needs right now is Robin or The Riddler. Maybe I’m just a huge comic book geek or something, but is it too much to ask that they don’t even joke about frelling up a film franchise that’s going *so* well? If LaBeouf‘s going to end up in a comic film, I’m 100% for Y: The Last Man’s big screen adaption.
Plus it’s kind of silly to think that someone who just dropped out of Dark Fields due to surgery and healing is going to up and join the cast of a huge film like the still only theoretical next Batman movie, don’t you?
