In My Wildest Dreams
2009 | Business, Food
Okay, I’m way too addicted to The Sims. To be honest I don’t much care about the life simulation part – if I wanted to play a game about that I’d go with Emperor ROTMK or Pharaoh – what I love about the Sims is the ability to create buildings and landscapes. I literally have no money so I can’t build like I’d like to, I can’t open a store or a restaurant, but if I could I’ve got a million ideas about what I’d like to do and my fondest restaurant dream is this. A Bento Bar.
Bento, a Japanese tradition in artistically made portable meals, is one of my passions. Even with my limited cash flow I’ve collected about twenty bento boxs since 2005 and a slew of accessories, but I’ve got to have them shipped to middle America from Japan which is why it’s taken me four years to amass the collection I’ve got. And that’s always bugged me. See, I’m sure that if people in the U.S. were exposed to bento as an everyday thing, they’d realize how great it is and want in on the whole shebang. My bentos have always gotten compliments and enthusiastic questions and I’ve turned quite a few people on to bento who now carry a packed lunch almost every day. If it were only easier to get people used to it, you know?
So what I’d love to do if I could ever afford all of the fixing (like Colonial bar stools, tables, buffet counters, etc.) is to open a Bento bar, where you could go in and have a sit down lunch packed into a bento. Where you could buy plastic bentos, bags, hashi, cook books, gift sets, etc. but still have a meal like a regular restaurant. I’d love to have a sort of buffet/bar of it – you could go and get your rice then extras like tamagoyaki and korokke, and maybe bento staples like pocky, hi-chew and odango. It would absolutely rule.
When I get that urge I tend to head to the one place I know I’ll find the gorgeous, quality restaurant furnishings that can get my creative juices flowing – fashionseating.com! I wish that my former boss (ran a pizza restaurant) had gone there, his parlor could have really used the updating – plus everything’s so cheap. I wonder if they sell to civilian, non restaurant people?
