Gamer Girl Withdrawl
2009 | Games
I’m having issues. Severe issues! Lack of time issues. I’m itching to play some Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom (I so want to live in an ornate apartment from that game in real life, lol!), so much so that I’ve actually got MP3′s from the game’s background music on my MP3 player so I can listen to them while doing data entry at work. I know, I’m so lame!
I’m such a game fanatic. I am *so* old, I remember pixel Mario. Actually I’m old enough to remember the Super Mario Bros. TV show, with the little Run DMC style rap theme song and the two stoners on a roof top who VJ’d the cartoons for that network, whatever network it was. I still play Mario all the time, yes I know I’m lame but the old games are easily my second favorite. I so miss the 80s. I’m from that era. I remember when Bill and Ted first came out so, yeah. Old. Random: Why is Keanu freaking Reeves a big celebrity but Alex Winter didn’t make it out of the Bill and Ted franchise to any real stardom? Can someone answer that question? Because, judging by his other work (Lost Boys, anyone?) I don’t think Alex would’ve played Jonathan Harker with a Malibu accent. I’m just saying.
But while I love the old games – Mario being my favorite, then Dig Dug and Pac Man (come on, everybody loves Pac Man!), in the early 00′s I became a bigger fan of another type of video game that has since won my heart. City Builder Strategy Games. I’m in love. The first one I’d ever played was Sim City, I think that can be said for most everyone who’s played a city builder, but Sim City lacked in a lot of places and I got bored with it after a few months. Then came Sierra/Impressions games like Zeus, Pharaoh and Caesar – all insanely cool games, very hard, all worth the money. Then came the game that hooked me and has had my affection now for almost four years. Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom. The graphics are beautiful, the gameplay is smooth, the voicework and music are excellent and the cheats (oh lord, the cheats!) are to die for. You can’t get better than Emperor in City Builder terms as far as I’m concerned (sorry, Tropico, you don’t even come close) and easily one of the best in replay value. I’m going to marry it someday, and Utopia will be my maid of honor.
A lot of people find that shooting games are the most fun games to play. The best games in the long run however are usually more challenging such as puzzle games or strategy games.
