Family Meeting or How I Met Mr. Books
2010 | Family, Food, Friends, Holidays, Home and Garden, Random
Well, it’s officially the day before Thanksgiving and my mother’s new hubby(who we’ll call Ben)’s family is here, namely his pretty, sweet mother (we’ll call her Miss Mama after this) and his fun, wile-y, ornery brother (who we’ll call Mr. Books after his love of reading).
Ben’s already made Laota‘s day-before-Thanksgiving a minor nightmare, lashing out at her without too much provocation. He’s usually a pretty sweet guy, but he’s very passive aggressive and very sensitive, so he’ll misunderstand you then, instead of asking you what you meant or confronting you, he says nothing but treats you shitty. Then he’ll hold a grudge for a few days and blow up at you for something small – I love him to death, but that’s irritating as hell and to be honest it’s a form of minor abuse on his part, or at least that’s what I’m going to call it since he’s already called Laota saying, “You don’t need me here.” abuse. Yes, that’s his version of abuse. Holy crap, talk about a charmed life, lol. Ah well, people can only handle what they’re used to being able to handle, to ask them to handle more gracefully is normally unrealistic.
Mr. Books is apparently slightly, uh, estranged. He and Ben don’t see eye to eye because Mr. Books doesn’t like his choice of religions, which I more than understand, because I don’t either. He’s a pretty nice guy, we get along really well. We talked history, dictators, empires, ancient inventions, religion, politics, dead languages, political correctness, etc. without getting into any sort of real argument. We don’t agree on a lot of things, but we can agree to disagree without too much trouble – Ben needs to learn from this guy.
I thought for sure it was Thanksgiving already! I had no idea, I thought I’d missed it when I woke up (late night, ended up waking up at noon). Apparently I just got my dates wrong, yay me, I may get to see my parade after all! I love this time of year!
I’m so not looking forward to it freezing, though. Seriously, any colder than this is too cold, lol! What can I say? I’m still a California girl at heart, and I really miss the weather in Malibu. It’s just awful here. The temperature is erratic, it’s either freezing or melting you into a puddle and there’s usually no middle ground. This year’s been no different, almost as soon as it started to cool off the cold air, rain and wind rushed in to fill up the void left behind but the summer heatwave. I need to get myself some mittens.
Well, I’ve got a bazillion things to do, so please don’t mind me if I zip out for awhile. If I don’t get to say so tomorrow, Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it – drive safe!
