Video: Dreaming of Another World

Have you ever heard of the Mystery Jets? I haven’t, not until today at least and I’m kind of ticked at myself for not knowing sooner. They’re amazing, they have a sound that fits nicely between the Arctic Monkey’s and The Shins (maybe even a bit of a Rooney sound there). But still managing to be crazy original, and kind of a mixture of a gorgeous 60s sound and a great 80s sound. I think I may be in love… you can be in love with a band, right? It’s not weird to marry a song? Anyway, if you haven’t heard them, this is a great song called Dreaming of Another World from Stella Artois CO2 Soiree Show, which (as I’m told) was entirely broadcast from inside the “New Carbon-Efficient Stella Artois Bottle” – I love it!
Tell me you don’t love that? It takes me back a bit without being overly ‘retro’ (for some reason people confuse retro and vintage for each other, and that makes Faith crazy, lol). My only issue with the whole thing is that this is only a preview, but they’ve gone and done that because they know I’ve got to buy the whole thing now – tricky, sneaky band! I’ve decided I have to be a fan of them on facebook!

Ladies Love Bling, Too!
2009 | Beauty, Gifts and Giving, Reviews, Safety, Shopping
I’m a girl, well loosely defined at least, hehe. Granted, I’m not particularly femme and I’m not particularly meek – and, let’s face it, I can be downright butch – but that doesn’t stop me from being a girl. Why is this in any way important? Because, as it turns out, if you can find any kind of Hip Hop jewelry on the net you’re likely going to find male-only or unisex. That’s something that’s turned me off to Hip Hop jewelry in recent years.
I did get to check out Iced Out Jewelry today, though, and if you haven’t gone I think you’re missing out. Let’s set aside that they coined more than a few of the trends you’ll see in Hip Hop jewelry, or the fact that they’re over a decade old ( as well secured like Folsom ), so you don’t have to worry about buying from them online. Yeah, let’s set all that aside so that I can make a huge deal about the one tiny thing that sets them apart from every Hip Hop jewelry retailer I’ve ever come across – they have a Ladies Bling section! It’s not huge, but the pieces are gorgeous (all of their jewelry is gorgeous, though). Hey, Iced Out! Why didn’t I know about you guys back when I still wore jewelry?

What’s Your TV Watcher Style?
2009 | Blogging, Random, Reviews, TV, Video, Watching
I can’t speak for you, but I react to Horror films/television much the way a heroine from an Asian Horror film does – and that’s to cover my mouth with my hands to keep quiet just in case the ghost might here me. Hey, I’ve seen Ringu, and so have you. They climb right out of the TV set and get you! Heck, I’ve been known to watch through my fingers to keep myself safe from various Obakemono – no reason I should let the Kappa see me watching him, right? And yes, there are appropriately-timed mouse squeak screams. Thank the Gods my sister Laota and I are so close in these cases, because I think she’s the only person who’d put up with it!
I also have a tendency to go, “Look at this part!”, “Make sure to watch this!”, “This is the best part!”
Laota will tell you, flat out, anything that’s about to happen because she’s The Human Spoiler (it’s an accident, really!), so if you’re watching something for the first time it’s best to do so in secret, lol.
Jon – one of my best friends and my ex – will take whatever’s going on at the time on screen and turn it into a little improv song about how he loves or hates the show you’re watching. He used to love to do that with Surge commercials.
My mom will try and dissect everything on screen from a producer’s angle, which annoys me to no end because Laota‘s a writer (yes, a real live writer!) and I’m a crappy novelist, so the producer’s viewpoint (Sounds great, but can we make the dog talk? Like, maybe he’s hip and understands the youth of today? Can he call them, “Dawg“?) just ruins whatever you’re watching.
I don’t have much time to watch television (see previous post!), but when I do it tends to be at work during my break on my laptop, because DVDs are my friends. That’s because I’d never heard of the truTV effect before.
truTV used to be Court TV, and to be honest that name kind of turned me off to the whole thing because I’ve never been a big fan of courtroom television, but truTV is no longer just coverage of trials and real life courtroom drama. It has something for everyone – well, something for me at least!
truTV has a show that I’m just now learning about called Man vs. Cartoon, which is right up my alley! And I’m the type of person who will YELL at the screen if I’m alone (or with Laota), and my proof is that we’re watching The Last Unicorn and I’ve only yelled at the Unicorn about 6 times, lol.
Unfortunately truTV’s not for everyone, and the reason I say this is because if you’re easily affected by fiction then the fact that truTV covers real stories may mean that you have to watch with caution. It’s a blast if you can handle that kind of thing, but be warned that the stories are real! Want to get a taste of truTV right now? Check out the truTV video archive!

Review: BudgetGadgets.com
2009 | Electronics, Freebies, Gifts and Giving, Money, Reviews, Shopping
From time to time I get the chance to review products and services, and so far I’ve never had a better experience than I’ve had with BudgetGadgets. BudgetGadgets.com is an amazing find for anyone who loves fun, quirky little electronic gadgets for your PC, iPhone, Camera – whatever you can think of.
They sent me a couple of their products so that I could test them out and jot down my results, so here goes. First up is Hello Kitty Shape Portable USB Cooler Fan KF-500, which showed up a few days ago and I thought I’d take a bit of time to not only test it out, but test it’s durability.
First of all, it’s packaging was fabulous. It came new in it’s box in a protected envalope that arrived extremely quickly (have I mentioned that even if I’d bought these items, my shipping would have been FREE? That’s right, they offer free shipping, how cool is that!?). This fan comes with a USB cord to plug right into your PC’s USB port and it also takes batteries:

I’ve had it hooked up and using it for several days. Well, I work 16 hours a day during the best of circumstances, and it’s very hot and humid here, so the fan has been working over time and it hasn’t cracked, chipped, it hasn’t quit working, it doesn’t conk out at all. It’s price is great, too, it’s less than $6 to get this cute little fan brand new! In fact, I think the only issues I’ve got with it are that it only has one speed setting and it’s a bit on the loud side, but the fan noise isn’t at all annoying so it hasn’t bothered me much. Great little gadget to have!

[review pros="Cute, Durable, Effective, Portable, Good Packaging, Free Fast Shipping" cons="Noisy, Only One Speed" score=95]
Now onto the next gadget. It’s the Mini Microphone Recorder for iPhone 3G/iPod NANO 4/Touch 2, and it’s exactly like what it sounds like it is. This little gadget is a pill-sized microphone for your iPod or similarly styled recorder-equipped media player. It came, just like the other gadget, brand new in it’s package and well packed for shipping. Arrived extremely quickly!

My MP4 player is a generic Rockchip player with a sound recorder, and I didn’t know if it would work with the Mini Mic but it did! I don’t know the mechanics of how it works, but it definitely made the the sound of my voice crisper, clearer and louder. I don’t think I have any issues with this at all, it’s a steal at under $3!

[review pros="Free Shipping, Great Price, Works Great" cons="None!" score=100]
Overall the BudgetGadgets.com is a great site! It’s extremely easy to use, the customer service is SO friendly and helpful, the shipping is fast and free and the gadgets they offer are fun and very useful! Plus the prices are great, too! If you’d like to buy from them, they’ve given me a gift to pass on to you: 5% off of your order sitewide by entering this coupon during checkout: FM5OFF2
I’m definitely going to be buying from them sometime in the future. They’ve got a lot of great gadgets there that I’m already in love with!
